Assessment
At LaytonDental we take great care to make sure your dental needs are met. We try to make your visit as
comfortable as possible and help you take an active roll in your health care. As a new patient a complete
thorough assessment is a priority. There are seven areas we cover:
-
Consultation - Dr. Layton wants to know your concerns and history
-
Diagnostic x-rays - with the most up to date, ultra low dose digital x-ray system
-
Intra-oral photographs - for a picture record of before and after treatment. You can see clearly your dental treatment
-
Health of the gums and tooth supporting bone is evaluated
-
Microscopic evaluation - with phase contrast microscopy connected to the computer you and Dr. Layton can see what kinds of bacteria are in your mouth that can cause problems.
-
Teeth are closely examined to record all previous treatment and any areas of current concern, if any.
-
Plans for good oral health care are formulated and options are discussed, including visits with the hygienist.
For you as a returning patient, we follow this same assessment outline making any changes necessary to update your continuing dental health needs.
Hygiene
In our hygiene department you will be pampered with TLC as our hygienist evaluates cleans and educates you on the best program tailored to your specific needs. The following are her guidelines for a good assessment and management.

Management
It is true that the health of the mouth can affect the whole body. It is also true that imbalance in the body can
affect the health of the mouth. We at Layton Dental are concerned for your total health, and this is reflected in
our oral health management program.
We want you to keep your teeth all your life. The health of the gums around the teeth is an important concern.
Gums should not bleed. If they do, it could be from various causes which we can diagnose. For example, a microbe
sample from the gum line is examined in our office under Phase Contrast Microscopy to identify the types of
bacteria present. Where Gum disease exists, certain pathogens are almost always present. (Some pathogens that
start in the mouth end up through out the body). We can identify them and work to eliminate them from the mouth.
Tooth Decay can have its cause in several factors. It can be caused by more than just not brushing. If the cause
is an imbalance in body health, we certainly want to identify it and eliminate this cause of the decay.
Cosmetics is of great concern to us. We know that when teeth are clean, white and attractive we want to smile more,
we want to smile up close to others. Knowing that we present a clean healthy appearance when we smile can greatly
affect how we present ourselves to others. The importance of this cannot be understated for most of us. It is our
goal to provide the best dentistry has to offer in dental care and cosmetics.
Periodic dental examinations, and regular professional teeth cleaning by our hygienist, are important to
maintaining healthy mouth and teeth throughout our lives. This is what we mean by oral health management.
We at LaytonDental strive to provide you with the best of care.
